Opening hours of Blood Service units are expanding with more evening appointments added

Starting in May, it will be easier than ever to book a blood donation appointment as the ten Blood Service units will be open at least until 18:00 on weekdays starting on May 2.

”We have updated the opening hours based on customer feedback. Donors have requested later opening hours that allow blood donation after work”, Anu Keisala, Regional Manager at the Blood Service, explains.

In addition to the regular Blood Service units, blood can also be donated at blood donation events around the country. For all blood donation locations and their opening hours, please refer to the calendar on the Blood Service website.

“The staff of many units will also be available at blood donation events. For example, the nurses of Blood Service Seinäjoki, which is open on two weekdays, will be collecting blood in other parts of Ostrobothnia on other days”, Keisala says.

Blood is an indispensable part of successful healthcare and patient care. Each year, approximately 40,000 patients are treated with donated blood in Finland. Blood transfusions wouldn’t be possible without the help of 800 blood donors every weekday.

Most Finns of blood donation age, or those aged 18–70, are eligible for blood donation. In Finland, you can donate blood for the first time when you are no older than 59. Take a quick Can I Donate -online test to see if you can donate blood.
