The emergency messaging feature in the Donor app will be tested on 29 April 2026

The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service is testing an emergency communication tool (notifications in the Donor app and an emergency message banner appearing at the top of the website and app) on the website and mobile application on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The test does not require any action from blood donors.

The test notifications will be visible to users for a couple of hours. The Blood Service will verify that messages are displayed correctly and that links work as intended. The test message will clearly state that it is a test.

Receiving emergency messages requires the latest version of the app and notifications from the Blood Service to be enabled on your phone.

Here is how you can make sure you receive Blood Service messages about exceptional situations directly to your phone:

  • Download the Donor app or update it to the latest version
  • Enable notifications from the app on your phone. (Phone settings > Blood Service > Notifications > Allow notifications)
  • In your phone’s settings, you can check whether you have allowed the app to send notifications. You can also check whether you have already updated the app to the latest version and, if you wish, enable automatic updates.

The emergency messaging feature allows the Blood Service to inform blood donors in acute and critical situations (for example, in the event of a mass casualty incident). The emergency messaging feature is used only in exceptional emergency situations and not for routine communications.
