Pia Westman appointed to the Executive Board of the European Blood Alliance
Pia Westman, Director of the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service, has been elected to the Executive Board of the European Blood Alliance (EBA), an organization that promotes cooperation between European blood establishments.

The EBA works to ensure the availability of safe and high-quality blood and tissue products in Europe. Through the EBA, member organizations share information and experiences and work together to influence the development of the blood service in Europe. The EBA has 25 members, and the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service was one of its founders in 1998.
“The EBA’s Executive Board is a vantage point for the development of blood services in Europe. We have already benefited greatly from our membership in Finland, and European cooperation will continue to be important to us,” says Westman.
The EBA places particular emphasis on voluntary and unpaid blood donation in its activities. Increasing and diversifying the blood donor population is a common challenge in all European countries.
“Sufficient blood reserves able to respond to changes are not a given anywhere, but always require the help of voluntary donors. Blood donation is an important form of helping others and strengthens the functioning of society. This is a common goal for all EBA member countries”, Westman says.
The EBA’s Executive Board has six members from different European countries. Pia Westman’s Membership is for a four-year term from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2029.
