New version of the Donor app
A new version of the Donor mobile app will be released on Tuesday, 9 December 2025. The update includes, for example, a new Lifesaver badge and the ability to set your own favorite donation locations.
The Blood Service will also test an emergency communication tool in the Donor mobile app in Finnish, Swedish, and English on Monday, 11 December 2025. The test does not require any action from blood donors.
The test message will clearly state that it is a test. Receiving emergency alerts requires that Blood Service notifications are enabled in the phone’s settings. Here’s how to make sure you receive Blood Service emergency messages directly to your phone:
- Download the Donor app or update it to the latest version.
- Allow notifications from the app on your phone.
(Phone settings > Blood Service > Notifications > Allow notifications)
You can check in your phone settings whether you allow the app to send notifications. At the same time, you can make sure the app is updated to the latest version.
The emergency communication feature enables the Blood Service to inform blood donors in acute, critical situations (for example, in the event of a major accident). The feature will only be used in exceptional emergencies.
During the previous emergency communication test in early November, a problem occurred during the sending phase of the test message. As a result, only some app users received the test message.
