Help from blood donors is needed around the Easter holidays

The help of volunteer blood donors is needed especially around public holidays. The Blood Service units are open on weekdays and on Easter Monday, 18 April.

Usually, blood can be donated on weekdays, and that is sufficient to provide the blood products needed to treat patients.

“However, patients need blood products regardless of whether it is a weekday or a holiday. Platelets in particular remain viable only for a few days after donation, which is why blood donation units cannot be closed for too many days at a time,” says Pia Kara, Regional Manager at the Blood Service.

During the long Easter holidays, in addition to weekdays, blood can also be donated on Easter Monday, 18 April. The help of some 800 blood donors is needed every day of the week.

Especially on the days before and immediately after Easter, it is important that enough donors lend their helping hand, or arm, as it is in this case.

Both new and returning blood donors are welcome to donate blood. You can book your appointment for donation at veripalvelu.fi/ajanvaraus. Your first blood donation can be between the age of 18 and 59. You can easily check your eligibility to donate blood at www.sovinkoluovuttajaksi.fi.

On Monday, 18 April, blood can be donated at ten Blood Service units:

• Espoo Iso Omena, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Helsinki Sanomatalo, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
