What is a whole blood product?
In a whole blood product, the blood has not been separated into components. The product was added to the Blood Service product range at the beginning of 2026 and is intended for the treatment of severe bleeding in prehospital emergency care outside hospitals. With a whole blood product, the patient receives red blood cells, platelets and plasma simultaneously. The delivery of the product is agreed separately between the Blood Service and hospitals.
