Encourage your friend to donate blood
When you bring your friend to donate blood for the first time, you get a 45-day free trial period on Storytel.
Bring a new blood donor – get a free trial on Storytel
Storytel delights blood donation advocates by offering a free 45-day trial (includes 50 hours) to new and returning customers who have not been subscribers in the last six months (6 months).
Bring along a person who has never donated blood before to a blood donation site. As a reward, you’ll enjoy wonderful listening moments for over a month! The campaign runs until the end of this year, December 31, 2024.
How do I get the free trial?
You’ll receive a 45-day trial for every new first-time donor you bring to donate blood. The advocate is not required to donate themselves. You can simply wait and enjoy a coffee with your friend after the donation!
It’s as easy as this:
- Find your nearest donation location
- Book an appointment for a first-timer or stop by to ask for available donation times
- Inform a nurse that you are participating in the campaign
- The nurse gives the trial code to the advocate
- Enjoy a shared snack time together
Campaign Rules and Instructions
- In this campaign, the advocate is rewarded for bringing a new donor to donate blood.
- A new donor is considered to be someone who has never donated blood in Finland before.
- The advocate does not need to donate blood themselves to receive a reward.
- The campaign starts on October 7, 2024, and ends on December 31, 2024, at the latest. Codes for the trial period will be distributed as long as they last.
- Reward: A free trial period of 45 days / 50 hours on Storytel.
- The last redemption date for the trial code is January 15, 2025.
- One person can use one trial code. If you bring more than one blood donor, you can delight your friends by giving the extra trial codes to them.
- When activating the trial period on Storytel, you will need to enter your payment card details. After 45 days, your subscription will automatically continue as a regular Storytel Standard subscription at the price of €14.99 per month. You can cancel the subscription at any time on the Storytel website.
How can you participate in the campaign?
You can participate in the campaign at any blood donation location (see all locations) by bringing an adult who has never donated blood in Finland before. You will receive a free trial code for each new donor. For example, if you bring two new donors, you will receive two trial codes, and so on. Please note that you can only use one trial code yourself. You can give the rest to your friends.
You and your friend can also both be first-time donors and come together to try blood donation. In this case, you have brought each other, and you will both receive a trial code.
When you arrive, please mention at the registration that you are participating in the “Encourage a Friend” campaign. The nurse will give the trial code to the advocate.
Can I participate in the campaign on the Blood Donation Bus?
Yes, you can also participate in the campaign on the Blood Donation Bus. Please note that the advocate is not allowed inside the bus. The interior of the Blood Donation Bus is compact, and there isn’t enough space due to the limited area. The advocate will receive the trial code from the nurse on the bus, but they must wait for their friend outside the bus. Check where the bus is traveling!
What do I get as a reward?
Anyone who encourages a new blood donor will receive a 45-day free trial period on Storytel (storytel.com) as a thank you. With the code you receive, you get 45 days of free listening time (including 50 hours).
The free trial code is given in person at the blood donation location. Trial codes are distributed as long as they last. The reward is given even if blood donation is not possible at that time, for example, due to low hemoglobin levels. It is enough that the new donor is registered as a blood donor.
The reward cannot be exchanged for cash or other prizes.
Who can participate?
Anyone can participate in the campaign, as the advocate does not need to donate blood themselves. However, the new blood donor must be between 18 and 59 years old.
New blood donors should first take the “Can I Donate” test at: www.canidonate.fi/.
As always, the donor must also complete an electronic health questionnaire on the day of donation or at the earliest one day before the donation. The health questionnaire provides a preliminary assessment of donation eligibility and can also be completed on-site using the Blood Service’s device. The final assessment of eligibility is made at the donation location and is influenced by factors such as hemoglobin levels.
Do I need to book an appointment for blood donation?
No, you do not. You can book an appointment for blood donation (www.veripalvelu.fi/en/book-an-appointment/) or come to check for available slots on-site without a reservation.
If you both want to donate, we recommend booking blood donation appointments at the same time or in consecutive time slots. You can also call the free donor info line, and we will make the reservations for you: tel. 0800 0 5801 (weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Processing of Personal Data
The Blood Service processes the personal data of blood donors as described in the privacy policy of the blood donor register: www.veripalvelu.fi/en/privacy-policy/.
No separate data is recorded about donors in connection with the campaign.
Other Terms
If there is reason to suspect that a participant in the campaign has acted fraudulently or participated in any other way than specified in the rules, the Blood Service has the right to disqualify the participation.
The Blood Service will announce on the campaign page and, where possible, in the campaign’s marketing channels if we need to make changes to the campaign, its rewards, timing, availability, or other factors affecting the implementation of the campaign. The Blood Service reserves the right to make changes to the campaign and its rules.
The Need for New Blood Donors
The goal of the “Encourage a Friend” campaign is to increase the number of new blood donors, as currently, only about 3% of Finns donate blood each year. New blood donors are continuously needed because some donors have to stop donating blood due to reasons such as illness. We need about 20,000 new blood donors annually to maintain a sufficient and diverse donor pool to meet patients’ treatment needs in Finland.
Every weekday, we need around 700 donors to ensure the availability of blood products for patient care. The steady need for blood is further emphasized by the fact that blood products do not have a long shelf life. Donated blood is vital for accident victims, premature babies, and cancer patients, for example.
Blood donation is an easy and tangible way to help others. ❤️
