Blood Donation Bus

Donate blood on the bus

  • It’s easy and convenient.
  • You get a good feeling and a snack.
  • The donation takes less than an hour of your day.
  • As a first-time donor, you’ll receive a Lifesaver bag and get to know your blood type.

Only 3% of people donate blood, and that’s too few. This year, 22 000 first-time donors are needed so that Finland’s blood supply isn’t carried by too small a group. Everyone’s help is needed, because even a single donation can save up to three patients. ❤️

How bus donation works

  1. Book an appointment or come and ask any available times.
  2. Fill out the health questionnaire on the day of donation.
  3.  Enter the bus via the back door. The bus will not move during the donation.
  4. A nurse will interview you, and the blood donation will take place the same way as at other donation sites.
  5. After the donation, you can stay for coffee or take a snack with you.

✅ We recommend booking an appointment well in advance, as only four people can donate on the bus at the same time!

You can donate blood if:

  •  You are 18 or over. You can start donating blood up to the age of 59.
  •  You weigh between 50 and 199 kilograms.
  •  You are in generally good health. Most illnesses or medications (for example blood pressure or cholesterol medications) do not prevent blood donation.

The blood donation bus is not accessible

The bus is entered via narrow stairs and the interior spaces are compact. Unfortunately, blood donors who use a wheelchair cannot donate on the bus, but they are warmly welcome at our accessible donation centers.

Companions and assistants

Due to limited space, companions, assistants, interpreters, and children unfortunately cannot come inside the bus, as only the donor and the nurse can fit in the interview area. If you need help from a companion or assistant, you can donate at our donation centers.

Is there a restroom on the blood donation bus?

There is no public restroom on the blood donation bus. We aim to arrange bus donation locations where restroom facilities are available nearby (for example near shopping centers).

By donating blood, you are a lifesaver ❤️

Blood is used to make blood products that patients need in hospitals every day. Blood products are vital for example for accident victims, cancer patients, mothers who have given birth, and surgery patients.
