Blood Donors celebrated at Superterassi event Sunday
This year, World Blood Donor Day will be celebrated in a new way, as the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service and Superterassi meet at Kasarmitori in Helsinki. The event, held on Sunday 14 June 2026 from 12:00 to 15:00, is part of Superterassi’s Sunday program and is open and free to everyone.
This is the first time that World Blood Donor Day is celebrated as part of a well-known city event. The purpose of the event is to highlight the importance of blood donation and to thank blood donors.
At Superterassi, the collaboration is seen as a natural part of the summer program.
“Superterassi brings people together to enjoy the city, culture, and being together. It’s great that we can also provide a space for this socially important cause and encourage people to do good,” says Superterassi founder Jaajo Linnonmaa.
The event will feature activities for the whole family. Performers will be announced later. Blood donations will not take place on-site, but visitors will have the opportunity to discuss blood donation with Blood Service experts and receive reliable information about donating.
“I have personally been an active blood donor for almost twenty years, so I am very grateful that through this collaboration we can communicate together with the Blood Service about the importance of blood donation and thank lifesavers for their important work,” says Superterassi CEO Aki Keskitalo.
Thousands of visitors are expected at Superterassi’s event Sunday. The collaboration provides Blood Service with an opportunity to reach people where they already are, in the middle of the city and a summer event.
“We want to thank all blood donors. Many people have never stopped to consider whether they themselves could donate blood. At the event, there is an opportunity to discuss blood donation and receive reliable information. We greatly appreciate Superterassi’s support for this socially important work,” says Hille Nylander, Partnership Manager at the Blood Service.
Blood transfusion is often a lifesaving treatment and cannot be replaced by medication. Blood components made from donated blood are used to treat many different illnesses. Voluntary blood donors are needed year-round. Each year, around 40,000 patients in Finland receive blood products. The Blood Service’s ability to respond quickly to changing situations always relies on voluntary blood donors.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on 14 June in honor of blood donors and to highlight the importance of blood donation.
