Blood Donation at Åbo Svenska Teater Main Stage on 5 February
The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service is organizing a blood donation event in cooperation with Åbo Svenska Teater (ÅST) on Thursday, 5 February 2026, from 12:00 to 18:00. The event will be carried out together with student organizations from the Turku region.
The Blood Service’s goal is to recruit more than 20,000 new blood donors in 2026.
“Turku has 40,000 students, which represents enormous potential for strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions. Student organizations do valuable work by taking part in this blood donation campaign,” says Pekka Kukko, Regional Manager of the Blood Service in Turku.
The cooperation between the theatre and the Blood Service began in 2017 and was a success from the very start. This will now be the ninth time the blood donation event is held on the theatre stage. This year’s event will also be the last one for a long time to take place in the theatre building, as the theatre will undergo major renovations in 2027–2028 and ÅST will temporarily relocate to the House of Arts.
“For Åbo Svenska Teater, social engagement is important, and cooperation with the Blood Service in this way is both unique and meaningful. Anyone who wants to combine doing a good deed with the experience of what it feels like to be on a theatre stage should join us now—before the theatre building is renovated,” says ÅST’s Communications Manager, Tove Virta.
A Unique Setting for Blood Donation
The environment for blood donation is truly special. During the donation, the auditorium is beautifully lit and familiar musical melodies play in the background. The Blood Service will offer blood donors treats such as doughnuts, smoothies, coffee, and tea.
Access to the main stage is via backstage, through the entrance located on the Hansakortteli side.
