Donating blood is an easy and concrete way to help:

• It takes only about an hour of your day.
• One donation helps up to three patients.
• You’ll always get a good feeling and a snack.
• As a first‑time donor, you’ll get a Lifesaver bag and learn about your blood type.

Currently, only 3 % of people donate blood, and that’s too few. This year, 22 000 first-time donors are needed so Finland’s blood supply doesn’t rely on too small a group of people.

Blood is used to prepare blood products that patients need in hospitals every day. These blood products are vital for accident victims, cancer patients, mothers who have given birth, and surgical patients.

You can donate if:

• You are 18 years old or older. You can start donating blood up to the age of 59.
• You weigh 50–199 kilos.
• You are in general good health. Most illnesses or medicines (for example blood pressure and cholesterol medications) do not prevent blood donation.
